SUPERPIER

A huge 1940s era pier in the Hudson River was purchased and developed by a consortium of NYC developers who approached RAAD to design a solution for a concrete sub-level of the pier — in essence, a mind-boggling underwater room of vast proportions.

RAAD Studio designed a sunlight collection system to draw natural daylight down into the underwater space to create an “underwater beach” for the commercial tenants above. This startling design is essentially a core-sample of a Californian beach dropped underwater, accentuated by a cluster of taco trucks parked in this fantasy environment.
