CLARINA’S TOWNHOUSE

RAAD built this townhouse for an artist whose work embraces organic, visceral forms. The essence of the house is a clean backdrop for her creations. But in the front space, a large plaster sculpture, built by the owner herself, is like a functional fungus “infection” that spreads through the building, eating the architecture as it grows. It overtakes the windows, the window seat, the RAAD custom speaker credenza, and even oozes into the next floor. Functionally, the piece creates a cozy reading nook, a fireplace, candle niches, and a passage that one can climb upstairs through. More of Clarina’s work can be seen here.
