UPPER WEST SIDE TOWNHOUSE
This historic building was subject to a lighting issue common to nearly every New York City townhouse - with windows only on the front and back, the vast interior of the house is dark.
To solve this, RAAD made use of the ample size of the property to cut huge volumes in cross-section throughout the house. These staggered spaces create terraces, interior gardens, and light wells that cascade down through the building, drawing in light, air, and greenery.
